City residents will see an 8 percent increase in their fire assessment fee, under preliminary fiscal 2013 rates approved by commissioners this week.
Commissioners went along with the city manager’s recommended overall property tax rate of $10.87 for each $1,000 of taxable value, a 0.1 percent increase over the current rate. The owner of a $125,000 house receiving a $50,000 homestead exemption would pay $815 in city property taxes, about $1 more than this year.
The commission also gave tentative approval to a single-family fire fee of $197.66, which is up $15.81 from the rate set last year. Final approval of the tax rate and fire fee will be in September.
The city’s proposed $15.3 million operating budget includes a 4 percent salary increase for city employees, who received a 10 percent pay cut last year.

My colleague Larry Barszewski got the story somewhat right. Now, that’s not a dig at the man. He’s a very talented reporter, of that I have no doubt. He’s just stretched too thin, and hasn’t had the time to devote to the cause like MAOS.
So, let’s go over what the Sun-Sentinel didn’t report.
LarryB:
Stated that property tax rate was going to be 10.87 and property taxes would go up slightly.
Forgot to mention:
- This is the highest rate in the state
- The operating millage rate is 9.5, an R.C.H. below the legal maximum of 10
LarryB:
Stated that fire fees were going up 8%, an increase of 15.81 from current 197.55.
Forgot to mention:
- Last year’s increase of 25%
- Both are over the legal limit
LarryB:
Stated the 4% increase to employees was planned and all employees took a 10% cut last year.
Forgot to mention:
jon allenfrat bastard andmarie elianormoroneconomics did not take a 10% cut- Both actually received raises
- The trouble on the advisory boards

frat bastard forced the City Clerk out today — told her to resign or be fired.
She resigned and left.
The next Commission meeting is August 28th. Expect another spendiforious hiring (someone get me another NFBPA reject). Maybe someone formerly employed at Office Depot (they handle paper there right?).
This is an apparent grab by frat bastard to control the flow of information.
We have been telling you… What are they trying to hide…[/cleeng_content]
