We see the City of Lauderhill is charging extremely high rates for fire fees and applying the wrong categories.
From the Sun-Sentinel:
The hefty fire assessment fees Lauderhill charged small group homes this year seemed outrageous to their operators. Now the city agrees.
Commissioners this month scaled back the fees after city officials found they were at odds with state law. The city was charging the group homes thousands of dollars too much, which threatened to put them out of business.
MAOS has recently become an expert in the area of fire fees. It became an imperative as we found city after city not following the applicable Florida Statutes.
We see the City of Lauderhill has admitted that the wrong category was applied to the residents.
We also see the extreme amount that was billed.
If you dig further, you will probably see that the fire fee is paying for more than just fire response – it is paying for EMS response which is contrary to Florida Statutes.
Someone should ask (public records request) for the study or calculation that shows the proper split between Fire Response and EMS response costs for Lauderhill. Our guess is that there is not a current one, or they can’t conveniently find it.
Which brings us to Lauderdale Lakes.
They have exceeded the legal maximum fire fee by 33% for the past two years. Their fire fee is paying for a good portion of the EMS response. We have pointed this out, forwarded it to the OIG, you name it. And Lauderdale Lakes has a valid study done by the Matrix Company in 2009 so there is no excuse.
Lauderdale Lakes and Lauderhill will be forced at some point in time to refund a portion of the fire fee to the residents.
Just ask Tamarac.
MAOS will sit back and laugh when that happens.
Not at the residents (being butt-fucked), but at Kennie Hobbs, Jon Allen, Eric Haynes, Marie Elianor, and of course, both City Commissions who continue to have their heads in the sand.
But what is even worse is that at the insistence of Allen and Haynes, the methods of Hobbs is now being imported into Lauderdale Lakes for rental housing, budget authority, purchasing authority, etc.
What a model to pattern after – Hobbs- Lauderhill- Deerfield Beach Housing Authority…
And who helps them pull off these stunts? None other than auditor Rod Harvey-cohort of JA/KH/EH- blind eye for a …
