Former Deerfield Beach housing commissioner accused of violating ethics code

DEERFIELD BEACH — The state ethics commission found probable cause that a former Deerfield Beach Housing Authority Commissioner violated ethics rules by serving as president of a private company that rented office space from the housing authority.
Lee Giannino, who resigned from his position in May 2011, served as the president of for-profit company Grand American when it rented property from the housing authority. The company failed to make payments for the three-year lease starting in 2007. Grand American owed the housing authority $2,796.32 when it moved out in 2007. The company dissolved in 2008.
Giannino also failed to disclose his association with the company when the commission voted on the item, even though he didn’t vote.
A public hearing will be scheduled in two weeks. Giannino could not be reached for comment Wednesday despite three phone calls and a message on his voicemail.
