These are our choices for Deerfield Beach mayoral candidates. It’s no wonder Deerfield’s not even more JackLackelPackel’ed, as this town certainly puts the fucked in “fucked up.”

Jacksonville police have never called Don Petersen a suspect in his estranged wife’s killing. Petersen, a pharmaceutical salesman, said he welcomes the new attention despite being questioned several times by police and suspected by some of his wife’s friends and family.

“All we have are pictures and a grave,” said Mary Petersen’s mother, Fran Futrill.

Also still unresolved is Mary Petersen’s estate. Probate records show the case has been held up in part by a dispute over four small pension funds. Petersen wrote the annuity company in 2006, demanding that the funds be disbursed.

The company responded by asking the court for guidance in December 2007 and cited Florida’s so-called “slayer statute,” which prohibits a beneficiary who kills the insured from collecting.
