Words have power.

Having seized the opportunity to watch Obama and Clinton in Kissimmee the other night, I recalled the words of my father (a Dittohead).

Fancy speeches mean dick.

And this coming from a man who voted twice for President Strategery.

Words, my friends, have power to inspire and motivate. Rosa and her single word. Kennedy got an entire nation on board.

Where would we be if King didn't utter the words I have a dream?

Worse off I am certain.

It took me a while but ...

I finally figured it out.

All of that angst coming from the other blogs in Deerfield (excluding Sayles).

You see, if you follow their bellyaching, you'd notice that they are always banging away at management. Finding fault with this or that.

And it took my parsing of the latest City Times entry to come to a better understanding of their issue.

It was the phrase 'good old boy' network that clued me into the blog's motivation.

And it is ... drum roll please.

Racism.

Plain and simple. Nothing elegant, educated, or enlightened. Just hate based on skin pigmentation.

Glad that we finally got that out of the way.

A black feller as President of the United States

That is fucking cool man.

Go Barack Go.

Perhaps once and for all we can get past the color of someone's skin.

Four more years? Fuck that.

When George Bush took office...

  • The world was largely at peace
  • The U.S. military was largely at rest
  • Oil was $23 a barrel
  • The economy was growing at more than 3 percent
  • $1 was worth 116 yen
  • The national debt was just under $6 trillion
  • The federal government was running a sizable budgetary surplus
  • The September 11 attacks, for all they cost us as a nation, increased the world's willingness to cooperate with us.
When George Bush leaves offices...
  • Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
  • A tired and stretched armed forces
  • A global struggle with terrorism
  • Oil that has ranged as high as $150 a barrel
  • A weaker dollar (now worth 95 yen)
  • Substantial anti-American sentiment
  • A federal budget deficit that could reach $1 trillion in 2009
  • A ballooning national debt of some $10 trillion
  • A global economic slowdown that will increase instability in numerous countries

Had the unfortunate experience of hearing McRage speak

And guess what I learned?

McSame believes that Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay, was the FOUNDER of eBay.

Sorry pal. She wasn't. Pierre was - started out as Echo Bay.

Forget old coot.

Perp walk

Wonder the odds of Steve Gonor getting a perp walk...

I've heard tell that Lamberti would be there personally to apply the cuffs.

I'd say even money the shitbird cries like a little bitch in the back of the squad car.

Wadda think? 180 days in jail + 5 years probation?

Live blogging from the game

Dear Gawd.

Where has Porter been for the last two years?

$25 to park today. $26 for a beer and a shot. Kid kicking my seat? Priceless.

Thanks to my friend who (a) gave me the tickets and (b) but up with my temporary nonsense.

Chazzie, let me count the ways you are wrong.

Special thanks to the love of my life for pointing out the following shoes.  Which, some of you may recall, were the "blue shoes" from the movie Sex in the City.  Originally custom made Manolo Blahniks, now available at high end retailers (Barneys, Bergdorf, etc) for $945.

When in doubt, quote Shakespeare

Last night over dinner with a very hawkish neocon family friend, I was asked what was "my problem with Sarah Palin"?

But, before I get to this answer, it's important to realize this particular friend isn't from Deerfield Beach.  Implying of course the possibility of a level of intelligence exceeding that of a squirrel (see Gonot, Steve).

Recognizing and valuing the sharp mind seated across from me, I knew that the standard responses about Palin making the circuit weren't going to cut it.  And then it came to me.  When in doubt, quote Shakespeare.

Raising my wine glass to her, I indicated the following...

Sound and fury, signifying nothing.

About Acts of Sedition

A progressive gauge of South Florida politics, elections, society and media, Acts of Sedition is a personal blog reflecting on the poignant and offbeat sides of news headlines and political theater as told by Chaz Stevens - citizen, activist, gadfly, pain in the ass, taxpayer, and of course beer maker.  All proceeds from this blog are donated to Women In Distress.
