But it is misleading since one candidate got money from a lobbying firm working for Bergeron.

This agreement is for 5 years plus three 5-year extensions- does that not sound a little long here for no competition- potential 20 years more?

In Plantation last week, city council members gave tentative approval to continue its garbage disposal contract service with Wheelabrator — and get a $500,300 signing bonus in the process. The council agreed to a five-year contract with five-year extension option. Like in Coral Springs, the money will be allocated to the general fund.

Miramar city officials said the court victory over Wheelabrator is a win for the residents of Miramar. The new contract will go into effect this July. "It proves that the status quo can be challenged and won," said Tom Good, the city's public works director.

This is a discussion regarding the selection of a service provider for solid waste disposal. Various options will be presented for review and consideration.

Meanwhile Waste Management is seeking an expansion of the landfill at the request of State and County officials although they are currently incapable of maintaining the site at its current status.

In its findings after inspecting Wheelabrator ENVIRON cited a number of problems at the plant, including discrepancies with the completion of sheets related to the monitoring of waste loads, the failure to list corrective actions on logs and inspection forms that don’t accurately depict the locations of spill containment kits. “I was very disappointed, this doesn’t make me feel comfortable at all,” Board of Health member Pamela Harris said.

Given all that has recently transpired with regards to open competition, transparency, and no-more back room deals in the garbage arena, wouldn't you want to rethink your city's previous 20 year commitment to Waste Management?

Wouldn't you want to check out the Broward County ILA (Inter-Local Agreement) for Waste Disposal or Recovered materials (Recycling) or perhaps piggy-back onto the Miramar trash gig?
