Do you realize that gold and platinum you are wearing was forged deep inside a star? And it came here to Earth through a super nova explosion? Stop for a moment and think how f***ing cool that is.
When it has exhausted its supply of hydrogen, a star can die in a violent explosion, called a nova. Such a stellar explosion throws a large cloud of dust and gas into space. The material from a supernova eventually disperses throughout interstellar space.
Carbon, nitrogen and oxygen atoms in our bodies, as well as atoms of all other heavy elements, were created in previous generations of stars over 4.5 billion years ago.
