The Broward County State Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation into Mayor Barbara Sharief’s financial disclosures.
Spokesman Ron Ishoy said the office has an “ongoing investigation” in the case. The same allegations prompted the state Commission on Ethics to investigate Sharief. That case goes to a probable cause hearing in one month. (Click here for memory refresher.)
Complainant Fred Messer of Pompano Beach said in his written complaint that it’s clear Sharief wasn’t forthcoming in her state-required financial disclosures. He said she didn’t report specific real estate she owned, and her state filings conflicted with the filings she made here in Broward.
Seems like bigger fish are interested in the Mayor than the Ethics Commission.
As a note, LL Commissioner Eric Haynes did not include any outside interests in his financial filing since he is the midst of a child support case. Did not want the baby’s momma to trace any of his many outside financial interests. Only filed with his City income as a Commissioner. Does that sound right to anyone?
